A Line Amidst a Circle is the experience of mutual dependence between all species in an ecosystem. The poem was created during a collaborative project with N-Gen (Next Generation Sonoran Desert Researchers) during a biodiversity survey along the US/Mexico border. The piece is in response to the line created by the border and records biological cycles that flow through the area. Linear thinking limits human potential and is incompatible with the circular movement of nature, which we are inexpricably linked to. Participants are asked to rely on one another to read the poem around the parameters of the circle, patiently waiting as they thread the paper from the right to left until everyone is finished. It is intended to be read in silence.
